Start with the way you want to study. A phone app suits short practice sessions. A browser course can give you a reading sequence. Instructor-led packages make sense if you need scheduled teaching rather than another question bank.
Our first recommendation is to try SIE Exam Ready's free material before buying anything. We build it, so this is a comparison from an interested provider, not an independent ranking or a controlled test of exam outcomes. Use the free practice test to judge the explanations for yourself.
This page compares our app with two browser-based alternatives whose prices and access terms we checked on September 18, 2026. It is a shortlist, not a survey of every SIE app. For more providers, see the SIE prep course comparison.
Prices and access at a glance
All prices below are US dollars. These are the providers' advertised prices, not a checkout quote. Discounts and package contents can change.

| Kaplan SIE study packages | $99 to $229 regular price | 5 months | Self-study packages or Premium instruction |

A correction to our earlier comparison: Kaplan's package range starts at $99 before discounts. The $199 figure we previously used as its starting price is the regular price of its Premium OnDemand package. Premium Live Online is $229. Those instruction packages are not the whole range.
Kaplan also displayed a discounted package range of $84.15 to $194.65 when checked. Compare the contents and final checkout price rather than assuming that a promotion will still be available on your purchase date.
SIE Exam Ready: try the free material first
Our free course contains 30 written lessons. The paid tier includes 750 exam-style questions, detailed explanations and 10 full mock exams. You can use the product on iOS, Android or the web.
The weekly plan auto-renews and can be cancelled. The lifetime option is a single payment. Choose between them based on how you want to pay and whether you expect to return to the material, not a promised number of days to pass.
Try a lesson and a practice set before upgrading. Look for explanations that help you work through a new question, not just remember the answer to one you have already seen. Our study guide gives you another free way to review the topics.
Achievable: a reading-led browser course
Achievable advertises a $99 one-time payment for a full year of access. Its course includes an online textbook, review quizzes and practice exams. It describes its textbook as mobile-friendly, so studying on a phone does not necessarily require a native app.
Its adaptive review system tracks your progress and adjusts the quiz questions. If you prefer to read a topic and then work through questions, open the sample linked from Achievable's SIE page and see whether that sequence suits you.
Do not compare a course's question count with an app's count as if the larger number proves better teaching. Read the explanations and check how the material covers your weak topics.
Kaplan: separate self-study from instruction
Kaplan offers Basic and Essential self-study packages as well as Premium instruction. Its Premium choices include OnDemand and Live Online teaching. Check the package comparison before paying: a feature described on the overall product page is not proof that it comes with every tier.
Kaplan's SecuritiesPro QBank lets you build practice exams by topic and length. That is useful if you want to focus a session on one weak area. Its page lists five months of course access and an optional five-month extension for $49.
The question to ask is whether you need the instruction package. If you already have teaching material, compare the self-study tools before treating the Premium price as the cost of entry. Read the current Kaplan package details for the exact option you intend to buy.
Will the practice feel like the real exam?
A practice score is feedback on that practice set. It is not a promise about your exam result. Different wording, repeated questions and the topics in a particular set can change how difficult it feels.
When you review an app, ask yourself:
- Can I explain why the other answers are wrong?
- Am I improving on unfamiliar questions, or remembering answers from a repeated set?
- Does the feedback tell me what to study next?
- Can I finish timed practice without rushing through the last questions?
Use FINRA's SIE exam page for the official content outline and its practice-test link. FINRA lists a $100 exam fee, separate from any prep purchase. Neither a higher course price nor a provider's advertised pass rate tells you what your result will be.
Choose a tool you will use
Start with free material if you are still deciding how you learn. Consider a reading-led course if you want a fixed sequence. Consider instruction if you need someone to teach the material and answer questions.
Before buying, check the access expiry, renewal terms, package contents and refund conditions on the provider's own site. Then put the tool into a study plan. Switching brands without reviewing your mistakes can leave you with the same weak topics and another bill.
